Discover the allure of rippling rings of color when you immerse yourself in the ancient Japanese art form Suminagashi.

Your single session hands-on art experience will be meditative and exhilarating all at once.

Suminagashi is endlessly captivating despite its simplicity. Floating inks on clear water involves finesse and mindfulness, yet anyone can pick it up! The dynamic and nuanced results will surprise you every time.

You’ll be walked through all the techniques you need to make striated and rippling rings of color whose beauty is as mysterious as it is captivating.

In this workshop you will:

• Create 12 marbled papers: 6 at 9x11”, and 6 at 12” x 19”, yours to keep.

• Discover some of the history and philosophy behind this meditative art form.

• Explore your body’s natural impact upon the design.

• Learn how to control up to 4 colors at once in the suminagashi bath, and use the simplest of tools to expand the possibilities!
