Bad Sleeper: Between Dark and Light | By Amber Zora

  • Frontline Arts 440 River Road Branchburg, NJ, 08876 United States (map)

Bad Sleeper: Between Dark and Light explores personal and collective histories through the lens of abstracted imagery. This exhibition showcases Amber Zora’s monotypes, screenprints, and ink drawings created during her residencies at Frontline Arts and Monson Arts in 2023 and Kala Art Institute in 2024.

Zora engages with the past while avoiding clear or direct representations of specific events. Her two-dimensional works draw viewers into a mysterious, personal space where everyday objects, figures, and scenes materialize from dark swaths of ink. The abstract quality of her imagery blurs the lines between reality and dream, allowing for a more subjective and personal interpretation.

Organized around recurring themes and motifs Zora has been revisiting in recent years, the exhibition features over 20 distinct pieces that demonstrate the artist's ongoing exploration of militarization, rural landscapes, and the use of poppies throughout history.
